Postpartum

Denton TX OB/GYN - Postpartum
The postpartum period is a time for recovery after you have given birth. If you have just given birth for the first time, you may have a lot of questions about what happens next.  Dr. Dooley will be able to answer your questions and will also help you learn what to expect, such as when your menstrual cycle will return, when you can have sex again, suggested birth control methods and what time period is recommended for you to heal before becoming pregnant again.

Your life has just changed. Not only are you recovering from the delivery process, you now have a newborn baby to care for who is very dependent. If this is not your first child, you may now face the challenge of watching other children while taking care of a new baby at the same time you are trying to take care of yourself.

If you had a cesarean delivery, it will take a little longer for your body to heal. Regardless of your method of delivery, you will feel exhausted and may experience some pain after giving birth.  Dr. Dooley will help you ease into this final stage of your pregnancy, which includes a final checkup to ensure you are healthy both physically and mentally.

It may seem overwhelming during the postpartum period. You may feel emotionally exhausted  or depressed in the days following delivery. If you feel extremely sad or you do not feel connected with your baby, contact Dr. Dooley, as you may need to be treated for postpartum depression.
